Daniel La Bar was born 1670-1680, died circa 1723 in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.[1][2]
One of the above ancestry trees lists his father as Abraham De La Barre (Labar) b. ABT 1650 Abbeville, Somme, Picarde, France d. AFT 1680 Possibly Philadelphia County or Northampton County and cites a probate index for Northampton Will Book, Vol 1-3, 1752-1800. And the mother as Judith Daucises b.1650 Bayern, Germany d.T 1680 possibly Pennsylvania
3 Apr 1700: Daniel De La Barre, son of Abraham De La Barre married Judith Roffigue, daughter of David Roffigue. The marriage occurred at Barbelroth--a location that on FamilySearch is dually mis-assigned to both Prussia and Bavaria, when it actually lies in the southwest Palatinate, near the French border.[3]
His profession is given as “maitre tisserant”, his birth place as “franqueville proche de la ville de guises en France”, Judith’s birthplace as “du deserre dans palatinate”.. Judith is said to have been German.
18 Feb 1701: Birth of son Peter in Barbelroth.[4]
Now around that time the Palatinate was devasted by war with France (that is why the families left and settled in the East of Prussia). The borderline changed frequently. The family fled France and resettled in the French Huguenot Colony located 750 miles away in Prenzlau, Prussia. Daniel (de) la Barre settled with his wife Judith Rossignol in the French colony of Prenzlau in the Uckermark, Prussia. Other family members were in Strasburg, Uckermark and in Bergholz, Uckermark all within a distance of like 20-30 miles. At least 30 French Reformed communities grew in the Brandenburg region (~1680-~1710)[5] The births recorded in Prenzlau are said to have originated from the French Reformed Church in Prenzlau. However, in the electronic sources, the birth records associated with Daniel Labarre are from the German Lutheran collection. Considering the probable location of origin in Barbelroth in what is today Germany--along with the fact that it is stated that Daniel's wife spoke German in some secondary sources--it seems more likely this family were German-speaking Huguenots. Some Huguenot Reformed churches in Brandenberg held alternating services in French and German.
Birth entries are found for the following children of Daniel Labarre and Judith Rossignol in the church book of the French reformed church of Prenzlau:
The remaining birth entries for Daniel La Barre are children with Anne Elisabeth Paul, so it is presumed that Judith Rossingnol died between 1719 and 1728.
29 Jul 1724. Daniel La Barre and his wife Anne Elisabeth Paul baptize a daughter Marie Anne Alexandrine.
20 July 1729. A Daniel La Barre and his wife Anne Elisabeth La Barre (formely: Paul) baptize a daughter Marie Sara at Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Prussia. * Nr. 812 Marie Sara Labarre, born 18 July 1729.[8] NOTE: FamilySearch record gives a baptism date of 20 Jul 1729. Maria Sarah will die in infancy 28 July 1730.[9]
Burial 19 Nov 1736 Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Preußen, Daniel La Barre age 56, Died same day. [10]
A comparison of the documented birth records above and the list of children listed on Wikitree reveals a poor correlation between the two. Peter, the oldest, has a documented birth in Barbelroth (although in this record his mother is named as Judith Roffigue--perhaps different from Judith Rossignol named in the later Prenzlau birth records? There exist Wikitree profiles for sons Abraham, Charles, John Wilhelm, and daughter Maria Barbara--but none of them have a documented birth record (either in Barbelroth or Prenzlau). On the other hand, Ester (1708), Rachel (1714), Anthoine (1719), Marie Ann Alexandrine (1724), and Maria Sara (1729), all born in Prenzlau, do not appear in Pennsylvania records.
If the sons of the family were living in Prenzlau, Brandenburg, Prussia prior to immigration, then they most likely would have departed from Bremen or Hamburg--not via the Rhine River. If the family had moved to Prezlau by the birth of Ester in 1708, then Peter, Abraham, and Charles ages 7, 6, and 5--would have traveled with their parents.
There are two other birth entries with a Daniel Labarre as father but with Anne Elisabeth Paul Caspart as mother. Good chance it is the same person, but could be a son just as well, since the profession is the same and the birthplace Franqueville but added province Picardie.
Some more Labarre’s from the same time in Prenzlau:
and from the same parents:
No more birth entries for the other Labarre fathers, so they might have left after 1730 to go to America.
The parents of “my Abraham La Barre (born 13 May 1708 in Strasburg, Uckermark)” are Guillaume de la Barre ( born 1684 Beindersheim, Pfalz) and Sara de Frene.
Guillaume is the son of Abraham de la Barre (born 7 May 1654 Frankenthal, Pfalz) and Marie Jeanne Charles. Abraham is son of Abraham de la Barre and Anne du Pre.
